Brief About Vietnam:
Vietnam, an other SouthEast Asian country, has its capital in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh
city forms the largest city. The Government functions as a Socialist Republic (single-party
communist state) and the country’s official language is Vietnamese. According to
official figures, Land Area is 331.690 sq. kms, population of around 85.79 million
and density of 259 per sq. km as of April 2009. Gross Domestic Product (GDP) was
recorded at USD 240.757 billion with per capita of USD 2,793.

FDI Policy in Vietnam:
- Vietnam welcomes 100% foreign investment for the manufacturing and processing sectors
by offering tax incentives on case to case basis.
- As per the WTO commitment, Vietnam allows the foreign investment for the trading
and service activities as follows :
Trading Activities:
- Pharmaceutical products, processed oil and crude oil, cane and beet sugar and rice
are excluded from the commitment.
- From 1st January 2008, up to 49 % foreign investment is allowed in the joint venture.
- From 1st January 2009, 100 % foreign investment is allowed.
Computer related
services:
- For the 2 years from the WTO accession , 100% foreign invested enterprises can provide
services to only foreign invested enterprises.
- After 3 years from the WTO accession, branching is allowed.
